Active Directory, Group Policy and Provisioning
New Brunswick Community College · Moncton, Canada · Academic work, 2023–2025
1. Project overview
NBCC identity administration supported by original PowerShell source and dated activity logs.
2. Objective
Organize directory objects, automate user provisioning and delegate appropriate administration.
3. Environment and technologies
Windows Server; AD DS; OUs; groups; GPO; PowerShell; RSAT; CSV provisioning.
4. Architecture
Departmental OUs contain users; groups control authorization. A CSV script maps departments to OUs and catches failures.
5. Technical implementation
- Happy Sunshine logs record AD diagram design, OU/account creation and policy work.
- csv-users.ps1 imports AD/CSV, validates required fields and skips unmapped departments.
- The script constructs New-ADUser parameters and handles exceptions. Embedded lab credentials are withheld.
- The knowledge base covers delegated resets, MSI policy and filtering; the February 18 log reports policy tests.
6. Configuration examples
Selected original source lines, not a complete script.
# Safe original lines selected from csv-users.ps1:
Import-Module ActiveDirectory
$UserList = Import-Csv -Path $CsvFilePath
$TargetOU = $DepartmentOUs[$Department]
# The remaining source includes validation, New-ADUser and try/catch.
# Credential/account-data lines omitted; this is not runnable replacement code.7. Security considerations
Use delegated OU scope and group permissions. The original fixed lab credential is withheld and is not a production provisioning recommendation.
8. Troubleshooting
Check CSV headers, missing fields, department mappings and OU distinguished names. Source code alone cannot prove successful bulk creation.
9. Verified result
Source inspection confirms mapping, validation and exception logic. Logs record OU/user creation and GPO tests; successful bulk-script execution is not independently verified.
10. Original evidence
csv-users.ps1; AD Knowledge Base; February 12/18 entries in LogBookTemplate updated.docx. Credential-free excerpt above.
