IP Addressing and Network Services
New Brunswick Community College · Moncton, Canada · Academic work, 2023–2025
1. Project overview
IPv4/IPv6 client addressing, DHCP options and VLSM planning.
2. Objective
Provide consistent addressing and distinguish assignment, gateway discovery and DNS provisioning.
3. Environment and technologies
Cisco IOS; IPv4 subnetting; VLSM; DHCPv4; DHCP relay; IPv6; SLAAC; stateful/stateless DHCPv6; DNS.
4. Architecture
Original Lab 4: client PC → switch → router supplying dual-stack addressing. Relay/multi-VLAN requirements are related coursework, not observed extensions of this exact lab.
5. Technical implementation
- Lab4-DHCPsubmit.docx specifies first-ten-address exclusions, gateway/DNS options and client ipconfig checks.
- IPv6 coursework assigns link-local/global addresses and enables routing for SLAAC; the report records FE80::1 as a gateway answer.
- Stateful DHCPv6 uses a pool, interface binding and managed flag. DNS and gateway behavior are checked separately.
- The pool image records rejected syntax followed by ipv6 nd prefix default no-autoconfig, then one active client. Relay/stateless completion remains unverified.
6. Configuration examples
Selected actual console transcription; final relay pattern is illustrative.
! Selected recovered console lines/output:
ipv6 nd prefix default no-autoconfig
show ipv6 dhcp pool
DHCPv6 pool: joshv6pool
DNS server: 2001:DB8:1AB:28::5
Domain name: lab5.v6
Active clients: 1
! Illustrative relay pattern, not recovered configuration:
ip helper-address <dhcp-server-address>7. Security considerations
Exclude infrastructure addresses from dynamic pools and validate intended relay destinations. The image uses an academic IPv6 documentation prefix.
8. Troubleshooting
A corrected prefix command and one active client are bounded observations, not proof of all DNS and dual-stack paths.
9. Verified result
The original DHCPv6 pool photo shows one active client. A separate binding photo was inspected but its client identifier is not published. Full dual-stack acceptance remains unverified.
10. Original evidence
Original Lab4-DHCPsubmit.docx: worksheet, written answers and six embedded images. The pool image is shown below.

The pool lists a documentation prefix, DNS option and one active client. The photo also records rejected syntax before a corrected command.
